The new WhatsApp and Video Conferencing Policy Pack has been created in light of recent changes which have occurred as a result of the impact of COVID-19 on services. Face to face meetings are less regular and services have moved to various online methods of communication. For staff this contact is to highlight important information and expectations in relation to the overall operation of the service during this time. Many services are currently making use of alternative methods of communication with their staff.
In many cases engagements are taking place over Zoom/MS Teams/Google Meet between staff and preschool children along with their families. This is to support children as they prepare to return to the setting. Interactions through the platform of Zoom/MS Teams/Google Meet (and/or WhatsApp when used to help keep staff and/or families connected to each other or to the service) can present implications around safety, appropriate use, dignity, supervision and GDPR.
It is best practice (and important for children's safety) to have policies in place for acceptable use of WhatsApp and Video Conferencing applications (Zoom/MS Team/Google Meet, etc.). Your policies should be agreed by all staff and families to ensure that the expectations are understood by all parties.
This pack as been designed by Canavan Byrne and each policy is approx. 6-7 pages. It is user-friendly and easy to follow. Guidance is provided on where you will need to make edits for your service.
