Febrile seizures are seizures associated with high body temperature where there are not other health issues implicated. Febrile seizures are believed to run in families in some cases and most commonly affect children aged 5 and under.
The Care Plan includes a Febrile Convulsions/Epilepsy Risk Assessment. When responding to a child who is having a febrile convulsion it is important to remember ACTION to ensure the child's safety during and after the convulsion. The risk assessment explains each of these in more detail.
A - Assess
C- Cushion
T – Time
I – Identity
O – Over
N – Never
This comprehensive and detailed risk assessment outlines potential hazards, including ones specific to the sleep room and care room. The form comes with suggestions on “What are we doing already” and “What further action is necessary”. These can be easily tailored to your service with actions added or removed as required.
If you already have the care plan, the Febrile Convulsions/Epilepsy Risk Assessment can be purchased as an individual downloadable document.
