Butterfly Season - only one day to go! Spring is here and we are excited for the 2022 butterfly season! From the 1st of March until early September services can go online and redeem caterpillar vouchers to begin the journey of raising caterpillars into butterflies!
If you have a life cycle or metamorphosis theme in your yearly plan then now is the time to get organised! Remember the process takes 4-5 weeks so you need to ensure that you give yourself some time to prepare and to allow the children to experience the wonderful transformation from caterpillars to butterflies.
If you would like the children to have a first hand experience with the life cycle then a Butterfly Garden is a great way to do that. The Insect Lore Butterfly Garden includes all that is needed to raise caterpillars that turn into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies within 4-5 weeks.
In each kit you will receive a butterfly habitat with clear mesh (pop up), feeding pipette and full instructions. In addition, you will receive the voucher to redeem your group of 3-5 caterpillars. Once you are finished the process, you simply store away your butterfly garden until you are ready to use again the following year. All you will require next time is a new voucher to redeem more caterpillars!
Butterfly Season - Resources for A Caterpillar to Butterfly Theme!
There are a number of products that you can avail of to help with your caterpillar to butterfly journey. The Big Bunch of Butterflies make great visual props for the children to explore up close. The pack includes 18 colourful and realistic butterflies from Painted Ladies, Monarchs, Swallowtails, Blue Morphos. This is a great way for the children to learn about the different types of butterflies that live around us!
Use the Butterfly Feeder to encourage butterflies to your outdoor space. The feeder can be suspended from a branch or fence or alternatively can sit flat on a table top. Use sugared water in place of nectar and watch as the butterflies feed. Butterflies are more prominent in the months between March and October and the butterfly feeder will attract them.

Please note there is a small postage fee of approx €5.00 for the delivery of the caterpillars.
