Sickle Cell Anemia Care Plan

Sickle Cell Anemia is one of a group of inherited disorders known as Sickle Cell Disease. This affects the shape of the red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout all parts of the body. Red bloods cells are normally round and flexible which helps them move easily. With Sickle Cell Anemia some of the red blood cells are shaped differently - like sickles or crescent moons. They can become rigid and sticky slowing or blocking blood flow.

It is vital to have a Care Plan in place if you have a child in your service with Sickle Cell Anemia.
