The new training video from Canavan Byrne based on Child-Led Curriculum Planning and Effective documentation is already proving to be very popular with Early Years Services across the country. This amazing video, done in collaboration with an award winning setting that has received 4 excellents in their most recent DES inspection and who is fully compliant with Tusla, makes a really useful tool for both new and existing staff members. The training was developed by Canavan Byrne in response to the same recurring questions on curriculum that have been asked during training sessions and research within the Early Years Sector. The five chapters in the training video set out to answer those recurring questions, which are;
- How do I devise an effective and stimulating curriculum in a busy early years setting?
- How do I develop a curriculum inspired by children’s emerging interests?
- How do I create an environment where children can learn through play, enquiry and exploration?
- How do I provide a stimulating, more child led space where children are free to fuel their own learning, curiosities and interests?
- How do I put theory into practice?
The video demonstrates how to plan your curriculum and how you should promote and use the Aistear and Siolta Practice when you are planning, implementing, recording and reflecting on your curriculum plans. It also demonstrates very clearly the different methods that you can use to document a child’s learning and explains how much documentation is enough. The video outlines the factors involved to fully comprehend and understand how an emerging curriculum works. These factors include; How Young Children Learn, The Impact the Physical Environment has on Learning, The Emergent Curriculum, The Emergent Curriculum in Action and Documenting Your Curriculum. Once these factors are fully understood by Early Years Practitioners it will lead to a successful curriculum as well as the successful documenting of the curriculum.
