Music and movement are great fun for children and adults alike. But did you know that exploring rhythm, music and movement can be important in helping children's cognitive and physical development?
Listening to music together, singing together and moving together are great ways for children to experience togetherness and create easy social bonds.
Music is an excellent way for children to have and share emotional experiences.
It is also believed that listening to and singing along with music helps activate parts of the brain associated with learning, mathematics and literacy!
What might be most important (certainly from the children's point of view) is that listening to music and moving together are FUN. Children love to listen, sing and dance together.
Funky Feet is the award-winning music and dance programme available from the Early Years Shop. All of the 5 Funky Feet CDs have won awards in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. They feature fun, imaginative and participatory songs and each CD comes with a guide with lyrics and movements as well as a key to developmental/educational area (such as movement, gross motor skills, sequencing, role play etc.)
The guidelines and forms may need adaptation to suit the circumstances of individual organisations.
