Visits, trips and outings are great for promoting children’s development and learning and to find out about their local environment. Outings need special planning and organisation to ensure the safety of the children and adults.

Firstly parents’ permission should always be sort before children are taken out of the premises. Some settings advise parents when they first join a setting that they may take the children for short local visits and get them to sign as part of a parental agreement. For other longer trips that may include travel by bus, car, etc are best planned and authorised by parents separately. An outings policy is an important way to ensure procedures are always followed and safety paramount.
