Road Trip Activity is this week’s Friday Freebie. Next week is National Road Safety Week, and National Beep Beep Day is celebrated on Friday, the 8th of October 2021. Beep Beep Day is a National Road Awareness Day for Preschool children. Why not use this day to learn about road safety in your classroom! Learning good road safety habits at an early age is very important. On this day you can talk to the children about the different ways in which everyone can be safe on the road. This includes:
- Car Seat and Seat Belt Safety
- Walking Safety
- Cycling Safety
- Going to School Safety
- Crossing Roads Safety
This Friday Freebie is suitable for Toddler and Preschool ages. It encourages children to talk about their idea of going on a road trip. You can use this activity to talk to the children about how they would need to be safe before setting out on their journey (car seats and seat belts).
Remember that curriculum activities can help start the journey, but the children’s interests will guide the play and lead to future activities for a child-led process. Discuss where the children would like to go and who they would bring. This activity includes a printable car that you can print off for each child and ask them to draw their ideas about their road trip. This activity outlines the key areas of development and how it links back to both Aistear and Montessori learning.
This activity is part of the On The Road Curriculum Planning Pack. If you are a member of the Early Years Resource Factory you have free access to this pack and all other curriculum plans on the Early Years Shop.
