Here is My Hand Printable is this week’s Friday Freebie. This is a fun activity that can be done in the classroom with the children and sent home with them to their families. The child’s hand print can go in the centre and the little poem is a nice little pick-me-up for parents who may be feeling anxious about their child starting preschool.
This is a great activity for building relationships between early years services and families. Families will know that services are there to support them as well as their child by providing some useful and informative tips!
The activity includes the following note for parents at the bottom of the sheet. This note includes some great advice and tips on how parents should support their child while settling into preschool.
Children can take a full two weeks or more to fully settle into Preschool. They require support, reassurance, and patience both from their new teachers, and from their families. A child who initially settles well, may regress, and become tearful or clinging at a later stage. This is normal.
Children depend on your confidence in them to overcome settling difficulties. Remind your child that you always come back, and that they are able, strong, and safe. Always say goodbye, and remind your child that Preschool is an exciting place to play and learn and make new friends. Remind them that you too went to school!
Don’t expect your child to relay all the details about their day – a lot goes on and children live in the moment. Once it’s gone, they often move on! If you are in any way concerned about your child Setting, let us know. We will work together to support you and your child in any way we can.
