We are delighted to bring you this ‘Birthday Album’ bundle which combines a Birthday Album from our “Documentation Made Simple Series” and a booklet providing you with lots of ideas on celebrating children’s birthdays that don’t involve cake!
The activities are designed to be flexible and adaptable to the varying types of Early Childhood Care and Education settings in operation within an Irish context. The suggestions in this resource pack are just that, and educators will take ownership and apply them as they feel appropriate to meet the needs of their cohort of children.
The themes and principles of both Aistear and Síolta have informed the ethos of the birthday celebrations ideas.
A birthday is the perfect time to celebrate the uniqueness of each child acknowledging their importance as members of their class and school community. Celebrating a child’s birthday each year helps them to process the concept of growing up, what that means for them, and the developmental stages and expectations that go with it. Traditions are important and these can be supported in the early years.
The focus is on the child for the day providing an opportunity to recognise the significant progress and journey which they have made. For the quiet child it’s a chance to build confidence and for the more outgoing child it’s an opportunity to enjoy being the centre of attention for the day. Sharing special experiences and creating memories enhances relationships within the setting promoting secure attachments, a place from where children can develop and reach their own unique potential.
